Sometimes it can feel easier to talk while walking rather than sitting face-to-face in an office. Walk-and-talk counseling takes the session outdoors, allowing us to walk side by side at a comfortable pace while having the same kinds of conversations we might have in a traditional counseling session.
Walking can give you something to do while we talk and create a little more space to think, reflect, and work through what you're experiencing. There is no expectation to walk quickly or cover a certain distance—the pace of the session is shaped around you.
And while movement is part of the experience, it isn't the goal. This is counseling first. Walking simply provides a different setting for the work we're doing together.
Walking changes the rhythm of a counseling session. Rather than sitting across from one another, we move side by side at a comfortable pace, allowing the conversation to unfold as we go.
Along the way, we may pause, slow down, sit for a while, or simply keep walking. There is no distance to cover and no fitness goal to reach. The movement is there to support the counseling process—not become the focus of it.
You don't have to be athletic or even consider yourself someone who “likes to exercise.” If walking feels comfortable and you'd prefer to talk while moving, walk-and-talk counseling may be worth exploring.
Walk-and-talk counseling may be a good fit if you:
Walk-and-talk sessions begin much like any other counseling session. We’ll check in, talk about what feels most important that day, and decide together what would be helpful to focus on.
Sessions take place at local parks and nature trails in McKinney and the surrounding areas. We’ll choose a meeting location ahead of time and walk at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Because we're meeting outdoors, we'll also talk through things like weather, privacy, the possibility of encountering other people, and what we'll do if conditions aren't a good fit for an outdoor session that day.
The setting may be different, but the purpose is the same: creating a supportive space where you can talk openly, gain insight, and work toward meaningful change.
You don’t have to know whether walk-and-talk counseling is right for you before reaching out. You may simply know that sitting in an office doesn’t quite feel like what you’re looking for.
A free 15-minute consultation gives us a chance to talk about what you're looking for, answer your questions, and decide whether walk-and-talk counseling feels like a good fit.
