A little about me

Where my passion comes from

I've worn a lot of the same hats many women wear — teacher, school counselor, working mom, stay-at-home mom, and first responder's wife. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the many roles women carry and the way life can sometimes pull us in so many directions at once.

Outside of counseling, I value time with my family, being outdoors, and slowing down enough to enjoy the simple things that often get overlooked in the busyness of life. I believe there is something meaningful about creating space to pause, reconnect, and pay attention to what matters most.

My approach

Practical tools.
Real change.

My work is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — practical, goal-oriented, and built around actually shifting the patterns that keep you stuck. We'll look at thoughts, emotions, and behaviors together and develop tools you can use in real life.

We'll also look at the bigger picture. Sleep, movement, and nutrition have a deeper impact on our emotional health than we often realize, and small shifts in these areas can make a meaningful difference.

About

A place to slow down, reflect,
and move forward with clarity

Brooke Jones, LPC-Associate
Where we begin

Reaching out isn't always easy

Many women are used to managing what needs to be done, showing up for others, and continuing forward even when something feels off internally. Over time, that can lead to feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of what you actually need.

Counseling offers a space to step out of that cycle — long enough to understand what is going on beneath the surface and begin moving forward in a more intentional way.

How I approach counseling

Reflective and practical

My approach is both reflective and practical. We take time to slow down and understand your experiences, patterns, and the things that may be contributing to how you're feeling.

From there, we begin identifying what matters most to you — your values — and use that as a foundation for meaningful change.

Counseling is not only a place to talk. It is a place to gain clarity, make decisions with intention, and begin moving toward the life you want to be living.

A more grounded approach to healing

Holistic. Nature-informed.
Made for you.

I take a holistic view of mental health, recognizing that emotional wellbeing is closely connected to physical health, environment, and daily life.

For some women, this also includes incorporating nature into the counseling process. Whether through traditional sessions, outdoor conversations, or Walk-and-Talk therapy, the goal is to create a space where you can think more clearly, feel more grounded, and engage in the work in a way that feels natural.

Who I work with

Women navigating real life

Many of the women I work with are capable and dependable, but feel internally overwhelmed or disconnected from themselves. I work with women navigating:

  • Life transitions
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship challenges
  • Caregiver stress
  • Burnout
  • Identity changes
  • The unique stress of supporting a first responder spouse or partner

Who I work with

Support for women in seasons of change

Life asks a lot of women. Balancing responsibilities, caring for others, and meeting expectations can leave little room to slow down and ask yourself what you actually need.

Over time, it can become easy to lose sight of yourself. You may feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about what comes next — or simply recognize that the way things have been is no longer working.

Counseling offers a place to step out of the constant demands of everyday life and create space for yourself — to reflect, gain clarity, and begin moving toward meaningful change.

My approach is warm, practical, and intentional. Together, we work to better understand your experiences, identify what matters most to you, and connect those values to real changes in your daily life.

Whether you are navigating a major transition or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, counseling can become a place to slow down, reconnect, and move forward with greater confidence and purpose.

Areas of focus

What brings women here

Life doesn't always fall into neat categories — and neither does what you're carrying. You might see yourself in one of these areas, or several at once. That's okay.

Anxiety & Stress

Constant worry, overwhelm, that low-level hum of tension that never quite turns off. We'll work to understand where it's coming from and develop tools that actually help.

Depression

Feeling flat, disconnected, or like you've lost interest in things that used to matter. We'll gently explore what's underneath and look for pathways toward relief.

Life Transitions

Career changes, becoming a mom, children leaving home, divorce, retirement — any season that asks you to redefine who you are and what you want.

Grief & Loss

Whether you're grieving a person, a relationship, a chapter of your life, or a version of yourself — grief deserves real space, not a timeline.

Relationship Challenges

Communication patterns, boundaries, the exhaustion of over-giving — in marriages, friendships, family dynamics, or within yourself.

Identity & Self-Worth

Questions about who you are beneath the roles you play. Especially common in seasons of change — and especially worth sitting with.

Postpartum & Maternal Mental Health

The emotional reality of pregnancy, new motherhood, postpartum anxiety or depression, and the identity shift that comes with becoming a mother.

Nature-Based Counseling

A more grounded approach to counseling

What it means

A counseling approach rooted in the natural world

The environment around us can influence the way we think, feel, and engage with the world. Research continues to show that spending time in nature can support emotional wellbeing by helping reduce stress, improve mood, and regulate the nervous system. Many people notice that they feel calmer, think more clearly, and breathe a little easier when they step outside.

Nature-based counseling intentionally incorporates the natural environment into the counseling process as a way to support the work we are already doing together. Nature is not the focus of therapy. You are. Instead, nature becomes part of the setting that can help create space for reflection, clarity, and meaningful conversation.

Why nature-based counseling feels different

Less pressure.
More clarity.

Traditional office counseling can be a great fit for many people. For others, sitting across from someone in an office can sometimes feel formal, confined, or difficult to settle into. Being outdoors often changes that experience. There is less pressure. There are fewer distractions. Conversations can feel more natural.

For many women, it becomes easier to slow down enough to notice what they are thinking, feeling, and needing.

Nature-based counseling can be especially supportive for women who:

  • Feel overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted
  • Have difficulty slowing down or quieting their thoughts
  • Feel disconnected from themselves
  • Process thoughts more easily through movement or experience
  • Feel mentally stuck
  • Want an alternative to a traditional office setting
A holistic approach to healing

The bigger picture

At WayfindHer Counseling, I take a whole-person approach to mental health. Emotional wellbeing is often connected to many parts of life, including relationships, physical health, daily routines, stress levels, and the environment around us.

Nature-based counseling reflects that perspective by creating an opportunity to slow down and pay attention to the bigger picture — not just what is happening internally, but also the patterns and experiences shaping everyday life.

Together, we work to better understand what matters most to you and use those values as a foundation for meaningful change.

What a session may look like

Tailored to you

Nature-based counseling may include:

  • Walking and talking outdoors
  • Sitting and reflecting in a natural setting
  • Traditional counseling conversations in an outdoor environment
  • Mindfulness or grounding experiences when appropriate

Sessions are tailored to your comfort level and individual needs.

Moving forward in a different way

A different environment can create
room for a different conversation

If traditional counseling has felt difficult to connect with, or if you simply feel drawn to a more grounded approach, nature-based counseling may offer a different way to engage in the work of healing and growth.

Walk & Talk Therapy

Counseling in motion

What it is

A counseling approach rooted in movement

Sometimes it feels easier to talk while doing something rather than sitting face-to-face in an office. Walk-and-talk therapy combines movement with the counseling process by taking sessions outdoors and allowing conversation to happen side by side while walking at a comfortable pace.

For many women, movement creates a different experience than traditional office counseling. Thoughts can feel less stuck, conversations often feel more natural, and there may be less pressure than sitting across from someone in a room.

Walk-and-talk therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, breathe, and engage in the counseling process in a different way.

Why movement can make a difference

More than just a walk

There is growing research supporting the connection between movement, nature, and emotional wellbeing. Many women notice that walking can help them:

  • Organize their thoughts
  • Process emotions more clearly
  • Reduce feelings of stress or pressure
  • Feel more mentally present
  • Experience a greater sense of calm

There is also something meaningful about physically moving while working through difficult experiences, transitions, or decisions. While walking itself is not therapy, it can support the work we are doing together in ways that feel natural and grounding.

Who it may be a good fit for

Walk-and-talk may be right for you

Walk-and-talk sessions can be especially helpful for women who:

  • Feel restless sitting in a traditional office setting
  • Process thoughts more easily while moving
  • Feel overwhelmed or mentally overloaded
  • Want a more relaxed counseling experience
  • Enjoy being outdoors
  • Are looking for an alternative to traditional therapy
What to expect

Comfortable, approachable, tailored to you

Walk-and-talk sessions are designed to feel comfortable and approachable. Sessions are held at a relaxed pace and adjusted to your comfort level. Walk-and-talk sessions are offered at parks and nature trails in McKinney and the surrounding areas.

During sessions we may:

  • Walk and talk side by side
  • Pause when needed
  • Sit and reflect if that feels more comfortable
  • Adjust the pace or environment based on your needs

This is not a fitness session, and there is no expectation related to speed, distance, or physical ability. The focus remains on counseling and the work we are doing together.

A different way to move forward

Sometimes changing the setting
changes the experience entirely

Walk-and-talk therapy is more than taking a walk with someone. It is a counseling experience intentionally designed to support reflection, clarity, and meaningful change in an environment that often feels less formal and more natural.

If you are curious whether walk-and-talk therapy would be a good fit for you, a free 15-minute consultation can provide an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the process.

FAQ

Questions I hear most often

What does a session cost? +
Sessions are $140 for 50 minutes. Payment is due at the time of service. I accept cash, check, and major credit/debit cards.
Do you take insurance? +
I don't accept insurance. As an LPC-Associate completing my supervised hours, I'm not yet credentialed with insurance companies. WayfindHer operates as a cash-pay practice — which many clients actually prefer. It means more privacy in your care, no insurance-required diagnosis, and no limitations on how long or how often we meet based on what a company decides to cover.
What happens during the free consultation? +
It's a 15-minute phone call — nothing formal, nothing to prepare for. I'll ask a little about what's bringing you to counseling, and you're welcome to ask me anything about my approach or what sessions look like. The goal is simply to get a feel for whether we'd be a good fit. There's no commitment involved.
Where is your office? +
My office is located at 503 S. Tennessee St., McKinney, TX 75069 — a little blue house near downtown McKinney. The space is shared with a physical therapist and a Pilates instructor — it's intentionally warm and welcoming. You're meant to feel comfortable when you walk in.
Is walk-and-talk counseling safe? +

Absolutely. Your comfort, privacy, and safety are important considerations in every walk-and-talk session. Sessions take place during daylight hours at carefully selected local parks and nature trails that provide a comfortable environment for walking and conversation.

Because outdoor counseling involves factors that are outside of our control, we also closely monitor weather conditions. If weather, trail conditions, or other circumstances make meeting outdoors impractical, we can easily move the session indoors or transition to a virtual appointment.

The purpose of walk-and-talk counseling is not exercise or fitness. Rather, gentle movement can help promote reflection, emotional processing, and mental clarity. Our pace and route are chosen to support the therapeutic process, allowing nature to enhance the experience rather than distract from it.

It's also important to understand that outdoor sessions have different confidentiality considerations than traditional office sessions. While every effort is made to protect your privacy, there is always a possibility that we may encounter other people on a trail or in a public space. Before beginning walk-and-talk counseling, we'll discuss these limitations, create a plan for handling unexpected interactions, and determine whether this format feels like the right fit for you.

While outdoor counseling involves more variables than a traditional office setting, thoughtful planning and preparation help create a safe, effective, and meaningful therapeutic experience for many clients.

What kind of therapy do you use? +
My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — a practical, goal-oriented framework that helps us understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence each other. I also take a holistic lens, checking in on sleep, nutrition, and movement at the start of sessions. And nature-based approaches are woven throughout everything I do.
How long does therapy take? +
That genuinely depends on what you're working through and what your goals are. Some clients come for a focused season around a specific life event; others engage in longer-term work. I'm not interested in creating dependency on therapy — I want you to leave feeling more capable and equipped, not like you need to keep coming back to stay okay. We'll talk about pacing and goals early on, and revisit them as we go.
